    Aloha,

First I tried Live Type, and couldn’t make it work properly for scrolling text. So of course, I checked with Creative Cow. It didn’t take much to find that the question had been both asked and answered. The answer; don’t try it in Live Type, use FCP instead.

So I did, and it worked… kind of. Here’s my conundrum:

I want a text scroll with centered text. That was easy to do. It only took a couple of minutes. But here’s the hard part. I want to take that center justified text and move it towards the right side of the screen.

So I went to the motion tab for that clip and moved the red plus mark to the right.

But the text didn’t move. I tried several more things, but none worked.

So my center justified text is in the middle of the screen, but I wish it were to the right of the middle.

I can live with it if I have to, but I don’t want to have to.

Strange. Moving the clip in FCP6 works fine. You moved the center point in the motion tab? Did it remove the render?

No, it didn’t do anything. I also tried moving the ‘pivot point’ (I’m not on the Mac right now and can’t remember what the proper name of the function is), and that both didn’t work and didn’t force a re-render either.

This is going to sound dumb, but make sure you’re modifying the one in the timeline. Sometimes I think I am, but it turns out to be an imaginary one in the viewer.

Just double click on it the one in the timeline to make sure.

Also, are you using FCP5 or 6?

    Thanks,

It’s version 5.14 and I was on the right clip. I went ahead and turned out the show. The scroll was centered rather than right of center as I would have preferred. I’ll keep playing though.

    Thanks again,
