  • Text Produces Drop In Brightness

Posted by Ravi Kanda on August 26, 2010 at 11:03 pm

    Hi guys

When I add text to my video, the point when it comes in and goes out, I experience a drop in brightness. Once the text disappears, everything is back to normal again.

Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

I’ve added no fades to the text.

    This is what I mean.

When the text comes in, the brightness reduces. When it fades out back, the video gets brighter again. Could it be missing frames?

I’ve uploaded my problem onto youtube:

If you cannot see the video well, download the mov file here:

Looks like luma shift. This is caused by processing renders in RGB color space not YUV. It’s a sequence setting called ‘Video processing’ – think it’s in the A/V prefs. Let me know how it works out.

    Hey Joy

    Thanks for your reply.

Could you tell me the procedure to solve this? I don’t know what to do with the Luma Shft and where to find it.

I’m just starting out in FCP so any help will be great!

    Sure thing, Ravi.

First, right click on the trouble sequence in your browser & select DUPLICATE. That way if you goof anything up by changing your settings you’ve got the original as a backup.

Right click on the duplicated sequence and click SETTINGS.

Click on the Video Processing tab: my guess is that Always Render in RGB is selected. Change it to Render in 8-bit YUV, which should eliminate your Luma Shift problem. Let me know how it goes!

    Peace & respect,

    Hi Joy.

Everything but ‘Always Render in RGB’is greyed out for me.

I’ve added a video of what is shown on my system.

The mov file is located here:

If the options are greyed out, what would I need to activate?

I’d like to add that this is an animation video I’m trying to add text to. So the compressor setting is set to ‘Animation’

Could this be the reason for the jump in levels?

If so, what should I change?
