Text Outlines Question
Hi everyone, I have been playing around with how to recreate the attached in Final Cut, specifically the text outline completely filling the space in letters like a’s and o’s and the outline still being in the general shape of the text with a similarly shaped drop shadow underneath. I have tried turning up the outline number for the text, but the background turns into a rectangular blob of color and doesn’t match the text shapes. I have also tried creating two separate text files and using that to color in the space, but changing two texts for each subtitle is time consuming. Any ideas on how to recreate this?

You can replicate this in Motion:
– basic text layer
– apply Stroke filter (Library / Filters / Border / Stroke)
– create clone layer of the text, place directly below
– add Brightness filter to clone layer, shift clone position to wherever you want your drop, adjust brightness to dim shadow color/stroke
Could easily be made into a plugin, btw.

In the OP, look at the bottom of those letters. I don’t think it’s a simple 2D outline, or if it is, it has extrusion.

Could very well be. I modified the above by removing the Brightness filter from the clone layer, and instead applied the Extrusion filter to the clone (extruding the original text layer caused unwanted clipping of the extrusion). Filters / Stylize / Extrude
