    Hi All

Ok this has me going frikken nuts here… Simple….
    Video Shot in HD 720 50 P in MOV – JVC HM100

Adding a Lensflare title gen over that. Then I want to move the title probably to the lower 3rd of the screen and add a logo above it… As soon as I click the reposition tab… and move the title… The clip moves with it… Its almost as if FCP attaches the Gen to the clip and you can’t separate it….

I have also noticed if you add a custom title and add say a blur in effect… It applies it to flipped everything the clip and everything that is beneath it….. WHAT GIVES

    Regards Will Granzier

No offense, you haven’t understood how the different titles work within FCPX.

All those who got a drop option for video will take the connected video automatically as source and therefore they will behave like an adjustment layer.
Those ones which don’t have a drop option won’t change the underlying video.

In most cases you can see it in the preview — if there is a kind of “landscape” visible they will change the connected video.
You can still change the title in Motion and remove the drop zone. But be careful, cause if you change it and just save it (if it’s not an internal one) all projects with this title in use will change as well – even though it’s not visible initially.
Modifying an internal template always creates a modified copy and you have to replace the old “bad” ones.

    Hi Andreas

Thnx for the tip… I hear you and to be honest I never knew that bit… Im kinda new to FCPX…. I know & backwards, but this has got me stumped.

U sees this even happens if I pull in a PNG image… Lets say a logo. I place it in the top corner and I put a simple effect onto the LOGO…. It applies it to the time line as well…. The image on which its laid ???

    Thnx

    Will,

Obviously I don’t really understand what you want to do.

Some examples below (and as 3D is now fancy, look at them with red/cyan glasses cause it’s even more obvious)

You can add an image file to a clip of the primary storyline and apply an effect (Prism). This affects only the image as you see below.

Now take the “Lens Flare” which shows the “landscape” in the preview. Apply the “Prism” as well to this text. As you see in the screenshot the title is above the PNG. The title and it’s effect affects all underlying video. The PNG effect is doubled, while the primary is only affected by the title effect.

Move the title to a lower track in this trackless timeline. Now the PNG is not affacted — only the primary track.

Hope it makes it a bit clearer for you.
Some Titles/Templates behave like adjustment layers. Others do not.
And trackless doesn’t mean that there are no tracks — obviously.

You also can work with compound clip.
