Text in Pre Comp looses quality when enlarged.

there is a layer option for nested comps called ‘continuous rasterization’ (it looks like a little sun in the switches panel of the timeline). check that option and your text edges should be clean….

Thanks for the response.
Should this option be checked for the text layers within the pre comps? As they already are.

I have then checked this option on each of the pre comps which then appears to be ‘Collapse Transformations’ This then looses all my camera keyframes etc…

i see… so you have 3d text within comps.. each of those comps has it’s own camera… so, as you found out, the continuous rasterization will ‘collapse transformations’ for any 3d layers, which allows the 3d layers to be in the 3d space of the comp that it is now nested in. which is often very useful, but it will use the camera system of the main comp (ae won’t allow you to have 2 active cameras).

you will probably need to work in a larger comp for your text, or rework them to work with the 3d space of the main comp (i.e. don’t use a camera in the nested comps, but manipulate them in the main comp).

Ok, thanks for your response. I’m not sure if I completely understand. I believe I only have one camera in the main composition?

that’s helpful….

all you need to do is go into each text precomp, 3d make all the text layers 3d and enable motion blur for each text layer. then go back to the main comp and check the collapse transformations option (you can uncheck the 3d and motion blur options for those nested comps).

when you do a collapse transformation on a nested comp, it tell ae to use the layer settings in the nested comp… so it will take 3d layer positions, motion blur and continuous rasterization from the nested source layers…

Hello, I signed up to this forum specifically because I had the same problem, which because of your post, fixed it. But a new problem has arisen, I hope you can fix that as well.

I’m doing a typography music video (where the text appears on the screen as the lyrics do in the song) and one of the animations is the camera rotating ninety degrees while the text “WEB” slides out from the side of the rest of the text already on screen. Before, when the text was low-quality (and didn’t have the continuous rasterization) this worked perfectly fine (although, obviously, low-quality), but now the text “WEB” doesn’t show up properly, it’s like there’s a box around it, and only parts of the text show up.

How do I fix this problem? I’m a novice at After Effects, so please try to phrase it as simply as possible, or I’ll likely get all confused. Thank you for the help!
