Text extruded in Photoshop doesn’t motion blur
I extruded a bunch of PSD logos in Photoshop using the repoussé tool. When I animate them in After Effects, I can’t get any of them to motion blur. Is there something special you need to do to get them to motion blur? I have their layer’s motion blur active, and the motion blur is turned on…..

Photoshop 3d elements imported into AE are an effect that renders on a layer just like Zaxwerks 3d Invigorator, Trapcode Particular, etc. As far as the After Effects camera knows, nothing on that layer is moving. To AE, that’s just a video. Some useful info and tutorials here [link].
Now, plugins like Particular and 3d Invigorator often have a motion blur option built into the effect. If not, you can always use another effect (such as Timewarp set to 100%) to fake the motion blur (as explained under the picture in this link).

Working with 3D in AE is SO SLOW…. 🙁

There are other problems..
The 3D layers pop on and off randomly, even shift position.. I have no idea why..
I guess I should experiment when I don’t have a deadline..! 🙂

I was struggling with a client’s 3d logo for a while too using the Repouse method.
Something I was working with all day, I just banged off in a 2d layer in 10 mins. It seems fairly slow at this time, so maybe the new Videocopilot 3d plugins will work much better, or the CS6 in the summer will be an overhaul and give us some fast 3d workflow. I was sick of caps locking back and forth. =<
