  • Text effect isn’t working in some inserts – At my wits end

Posted by Dale Parsons on March 3, 2015 at 6:54 pm

So I’ve spent 2 hours on this already and can’t figure it out.

I’ve got like 40 text media inserted all precisely placed, etc… For some reason the effect “Popup” won’t play. They’ve all been copy and pasted from the same original insert.

Some effects work, some don’t. Popup (the one I need) doesn’t.

It’s nothing to do with the track itself that I can tell, as a separately pasted text media on the same track is working fine. If I insert more from scratch, it works fine. Just these 40 or so (all *new* copy and pasted from the same source media event). It won’t work.

I’ve adjust duration, reselected the text and chose the animation again. Tried with looping on/off. Tried pasting attributes from a working event. Looked at properties of a working event compared to the non-working ones.

Looked at keyframing for some clue (just as you see in the image, not sure if there’s somewhere else to look at keyframing for the text animation) I have no idea what to do next. What could this possibly be?

    [Dale Parsons] “Anyone?”

You’ve got BLACK on a BLACK background. Change the Background colour under ADVANCED.

    We’ve all done it.

If you want the Video to show under the Text use the ALPHA control.

Background is transparent. The text shows fine, just doesn’t show the effect. Some effects are fine, but popup isn’t, unless I paste a fresh text media into the track. I can even paste a brand new text media into the exact same spot and duration and it works fine. Just don’t want to have to do that 50x…Copying and repasting all the text into new segments etc…

    I’ll share project:

Text event in your example does not start at frame 0 – it starts at 5 second.
That’s why you don’t see the animation.

THanks for the aditional info. I had to make the point.

Anyway, I’m looking at your Project right now. What I WILL say that if I start a new T&T the Popup Ani works.

Thanks, according to the keyframe and event timeline, everything is set at 0. Where do you see something set to start at 5 seconds?

Hold down Alt and drag this event until it starts at frame 0 (the contents of the event shift, but the event will not move).
This is called Slipping (see Help for more information)

Okay, I see it. Thank you. But how do I change this? And any way to do it in bulk? The other ones that aren’t working are showing 0.766 and no end point (they are their own copies, but still not working same as the first one)
