I am trying to put text at the beginning of a sequence over some changing still pictures. I am using the text generator and overwriting it onto the V3 track. When everything looks the way I want it to I render it and when I play it back on the canvas the text comes out blurry! I have tried it three times with the same result. I’m sure it’s me doing, or not doing something!!

    Got any suggestions?

    thanks

The canvas only displays 1 field of video information. You need to view this text on an external monitor or broadcast monitor. The computer monitor is a reference only and does not comly with NTSC video standards.

The other thing you are seeing is DV artifacting. In the DV codec you can expect text to be less sharp than other video codecs because of the color sampling rate of DV.

Alright, I’ll export and take a look on Tuesday, it’s on my work computer.

Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the long weekend.

Okay, I exported it three ways: motion JPEG, DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, DVCPRO50-NTSC, and viewed all three with the quick time player 7.1.3. No luck, the text is still blurry. Well, on the larger screen, I see the curved and angeled lines of the letters as having little steps in stead of straight lines.????

    Help?

Great Titles with the DV Codec
    By Philip Hodgetts

    https://www.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles/index.html

    All the basics.

BTW, I would never use any of the built-in (“legacy”) FCP Title Generators… truly AWFUL titlers!
Instead use the Boris “Title 3D” that is included on FCP install disc.
(Title 3D should already be one of your Title choices in FCP.)
