    Hi All,

At work i have hundreds of different signs to batch out with variables but some are single line text and some are double. I Want to keep the text centred until it becomes double line at which point the leading becomes the center of the textbox. Ive tried to demonstrate in the below image

Basically id like it so that the textbox expands around the center point based on content rather than from the top line. Is this possible?

    Thanks everyone

    Jack

It’s a bit complicated, but it is possible. Here’s how:

    1) Make your text box the width you want it.

    2) Select the text or place cursor in the text and select from menu Type>Area Type Options.

    3) Turn on “Auto Size”. This will make the text box height fit vertically to text.

    4) Create a separate box within which you want to vertically center the type. Doesn’t have to have any fill or stroke.

    5) Select both the text box and the “alignment box”.

    6) Click on the “alignment box” again, it will highlight with a darker line (it becomes the key object for aligning.

    7) Align the objects vertically centered. The text box will move to the center, the “alignment box” will stay in place.

Once set up this way, you can replace text and do 5-7 to re-align vertically.

If you can determine the line breaks beforehand — or do them manually — you can use point text instead.
