Text Background
Hi,
I’ve shot an actor (using a green screen) and I want to replace the background with either a solid color or moving background with text appearing on it. The text will fade out and be replaced with different text during the scene. I wanted the actor to obscure parts of the text as he moved back and forth. I tried using generated media text but the text appears in front of the actor. Is this possible to do with Vegas 6? Any help would be appreciated! -

Put the text on a track beneath the keyed individual. Then the keyed person will obscure/block the text with their movements.

Yes, but the chromakey pluggin in Vegas isnt very good, especially if you have green spill on the actor. If you have After Effects 7 or newer or Adobe Ultra at your disposal, You can get way better results. Keylight in After Effects works very well with spill shots as does Ultra. If Vegas is it, then I suggest putting a chromablur effect set to medium before the chromakey plug-in in the chain if your using DV footage. I read somewhere that changes the color space from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 I think. Danny Hays

Oh yea, If you have to use Vegas for Chromakeying in the future, a few good lighting tips to help are, Make sure the green screen is evenly lit and as wrinkle free as possible and place your talent as far from the green screen as possible. This will reduce the spill and help keep the green screen out of focus, especially if your depth of field is set right on the camera. Also put a magenta gel on a back light for the talent. Magenta will help cancel out the spill as it is the opposite color of green. Danny Hays

Thanks for the quick responses. I have access to Adobe Creative suite 3 (with Ultra) but so far I have no complaints with the chromakey in Vegas. For me Vegas is more “logical” to use. The chromakey tips from your book, Douglas (Vegas 6 Editing Workshop), have proved invaluable. Especially the color corrector tools. Thank you again!
