So today I had the need to do some text animation (as in text content, not the actual text animation thing, nor position of the text) in Vegas for the first time, and I am very frustrated. Text content animation in Vegas Pro 15 is incredibly buggy.

For one thing, keyframes won’t stay selected. As soon as I release the mouse button, they deselect themselves! This means that the delete button on the menu panel below the keyframe timeline does not work, and also it is impossible to copy/paste/delete using the right-click menu because everything is greyed out. The only way to delete a keyframe is to press “delete” on my keyboard while holding the left mouse button on it! I fired up my copy of Movie Studio 12 and it does not have any of these problems….

More importantly, however, the “Anchor Point” setting is not respected properly. I can get it to work, but upon closing and re-opening the file, or even just playing it a few times, it ceases to be respected. Interestingly, Movie Studio 12 has the same issue. And, it looks like I’m not alone either.

Is there any way to get around these bugs, or any way to get in touch directly with the dev team so they can fix this?

For the anchor point issue I have a work around. I know this will work for legacy text for sure. But if you are trying to animate a typing effect it would be easier with the pro type titler which doesn’t have the anchor point issue.

But for legacy text, type something then go into placement and selection something that has left or right in it, probably left would be better. Now go into pan crop and move the text where you actually want it. Now you should be able to type and it wont move around in an annoying manner.

Hi Michael, I can’t repro this. ALL KFs remain selected, they may not APPEAR to be, but they are. You can confirm this by seeing the the diamonds appear slightly larger/bigger. I checked that they are in fact selected by moving a Block of them down the Timeline. For me the Selection remains Selected.

[Michael Hoogasian] “The only way to delete a keyframe is to press “delete” on my keyboard while holding the left mouse button on it!”

Again, I can’t repro this. I’m using the Delete KF Tool:

And then I go ahead and Delete that single KF:

I didn’t use my KeyBoard, just my Mouse.

Hmm, your text tool looks different from mine. Anyhow, here’s screenrecording demonstrating my issue. (At the end, when I delete them, that’s me holding the mouse button while pressing delete on my keyboard).

Correct. You hadn’t informed me in your opening POST which of the Text Tools you’re working with.

Having duplicated the KF Controls in VEGAS Titles & Text I can’t repro, so no Bugster in VP15. However, I can see your results in your very helpful video what you’re doing. IMHO you’re NOT clicking on the KF Diamond or Control for long enough time to ACTIVATE them. I’d look at your sensitivity of your MOUSE Click and maybe increase it by at least the same time as your KB reacts. What do you think?

    Hi Michael,

I cannot duplicate you issue either. Perhaps performing a full reset would help. Hold down the ‘Ctrl+Shift’ keys while double clicking on the Vegas Pro 15 desktop shortcut. In the little window, check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, then lift click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vegas Pro 15 to it’s original installation settings, and also delete the pesky cached application data that builds up and sometimes causes Vegas to do strange things.

I would be inclined to agree with you, however as I stated in my opening post, I also have Movie Studio 12 installed and it does not have the issue (also using the VEGAS Titles & Text) so it seems to be a problem exclusive to VP15.

Ok, I will try that. Just to be clear however, when you tried to repro, were you using VEGAS Titles and Text or Legacy Text?

I doubt comparing the two is valuable. The overheads created by VP15 has to be naturally greater than Studio, there’s so much more going on.

Yes in both Title and Text and Legacy Text.

If I click on a key frame, it goes larger, then the play head snaps to that position and the key frame goes to normal size. With the play head at the key frame and click on it with the mouse it goes large, then a click on the Delete icon will delete the key frame. So, if the play head is aligned with the key frame to be deleted, then left click on the key frame to enlarge it (select), then move the mouse pointer to the Delete Icon and left click, the key frame is deleted.

    Best Regards……George

Well, I emailed MAGIX technical support with essentially the same message as in my opening post, and I also supplied them with the screenrecording of the problem. They were able to reproduce the issue in VP15 on their end, and while they did not say it would be fixed in an update, they did give me a free license for VP16 which they say does not have that bug 🙂
