  • Template won’t let me change opacity

Posted by Bob Cole on February 21, 2014 at 12:23 am

I inherited a template and it is… educational.

Some of the layers display the Opacity in a pink-red shade. When I try to change it (either from 0 to 100%, or from 100 to 0%) it won’t allow me to do that.

I know that this is a dumb question… but I’ve put the requisite couple of hours into trying to figure this out, and I throw myself on your mercy.

    Thanks!

[Bob Cole] “Some of the layers display the Opacity in a pink-red shade”

That color is a visual cue that an Expression is used for the property.
Just below the property’s value is an = sign. Click on the sign once to temporarily disable the Expression. Then change the value (keyframe it) as you normally do. Check that the results are what you want. Then you may delete the Expression by selecting the property and hitting ALT+SHIFT+=. This key combo is also available as a menu item within the Animation menu.

You nailed it. It was an expression which took control of the opacity. I’d never even thought about that.

    Thank you Dave!

Thanks! Learning expressions is on my to-do list.
