Temp non-harware solution for downconverting 720p24
I understand that hardware is the way to go for down converting…we have a kona card on order but won’t be here til next week. I need to downconvert a 720p24 sequence to run off onto dv tape today. Is it possible to get a decent, not quite so jittery, down convert in final cut? Compressor?

Hi Frank,
I think that both of them can do a good downconversion.
In FC setting “Render Motion Effects: BEST” should help.
When I do so I always set “Render all YUV material in High precision”.
In Compressor you need to set “Frame Control: ON”.

Export your 720p24 movie. Bring that in to a 23.98 DV timline and size/scale as needed (letterbox or anamorphic, whatever). Render.
FCP will add 3:2 pulldown on output as long as you have the pulldown setup that way in the rt drop down menu.
Next time, the Kona will do this all for you in real time.

Are you referring to the RT drob down menu on the left side of the sequence window? There is nothing there that says anything about 3:2 pulldown. Please explain…thanks.

Go to Final Cut Pro > System Settings > Playback Control tab.
You can set it there (to 2:3:2:3).
