Telestream files do not play out
I am trying to receive files in an FTP folder that were originally sent via a Telestream unit, and then play out the files on Final Cut Pro so that I can record to tape. However, Telestream’s file type seems to be some sort of MPEG2 that does not play out on a Mac. Is there a way to convert a Telestream MPEG (or MPEG2) to a format that Final Cut Pro can recognize, such as QuickTime?
Would one of Apple’s Quick Time software work, or are the Telestream MPEG’s unique and “protected” from conversion?
Any advice would be great. Thanks!

These are probably Mpeg2 program streams.
VLC player should play them. Free

You can try to add the .mpg extension and also try to open the file with MPGStreanclip that manage MPGs better than QT Player.
You may try to get more info with this little application:https://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/videospec.html
Its works with many different kinds of files, not only QT.

Thanks for your response. I have actually tried the VLC player before and I was able to view the spot on the Mac with it, but it did not actually play out of my Mac (out of my Blackmagic video card, that is). All I am able to play out to the tape deck is the audio, not the video (I can only see video in the VLC player window on my Mac).
Do you happen to know if there is a way to use the VLC player in conjunction with the Blackmagic video card so that I can actually get a video signal to come out of my Mac for recording?
The other option would be to convert to a format that Final Cut Pro can play. I tried MPEG Streamclip but it was not able to decipher any of the video aspects of the Telestream’s MPEG2.
I see that Apple has a Quicktime codec that they sell here:

This you have it already installed if you have FCS 2.
