Telekinetic energy like Dark City
I am looking for AE tutorials on how to make the effect like the telekinetic powers in the movie Dark City, with lots of warping the “air”. I have a general idea of how, but I`d like to make it complex like they had. Thanks

An animated displacement map should do the trick. Plenty of tutorials about.

I’ve got an idea. Make a dust-mist layer with opacity keyframed to go down when the effect occurs and apply warp or another distortion. This will distort the mist and not the film footage. Ramp it up and down quickly so it only exists during the effect. Mode screen then view the results.
