  • Technique to “bend” a line graphic

Posted by Jack Pitzer on January 5, 2010 at 6:29 pm

    Greetings,
I’m trying to figure out a technique to bend a still graphic provided to me. It’s a simple dashed line, like a very shallow “V” and it’s supposed to illustrate the movement of a wrist, bending at the bottom of the V.
That being said, can anybody recommend a technique to accomplish this?
    Sincerely,
    Jack

How about the distort tool? select it, grab a corner and adjust?

A wrist is a joint, a hinge. it doesn’t bend, it rotates about an axis.
I have no idea what you’ve got on your screen so imagine this. You’ve got a still image of an arm that includes the wrist and elbow and hand. You make three copies of the image carefully masking each one so it begins and ends at each of the joints with a bit of overlap. You open up each copy as a separate item and move the anchor point to the joint location. You may need to reposition them in the main sequence once you’ve done this. Now you apply rotation to one layer to illustrate how the joint works.
Umm, it’s a lot more complicated than that because there’s no way to parent the layers together as there is in After Effects.

If you make the dashed line in LiveType you can bend the base line.

    All the best,

    Tom
