    Hello!

I have major problems with my pc these days, so I have to uninstall windows and delete all files on c:
My Sony Vegas is on This disc. Is it any problem to install it on another disc, or is it best to have it on the same disc as the operation system?
I remember reading somewhere that its not good to install vegas on the same disc as I have my movieclips. Is that right?

It’s normal to instal Vegas, and all programs, on C drive, but in exceptional circumstances I guess it could be installed elsewhere.

It’s also a good idea not to capture video clips to the system drive, whether this is C or another drive.

    Hi Morten,

I strongly agree with Peter. If you have everything on only your system drive, it slows it down. If your system crashes, everything goes with it. Don’t take that chance. I have vegas on my system drive and my footage on my Maxtor 500G external drive. It works for me 🙂
    Best of Luck!

    Operating System: C
    Programs (including Vegas): C
Data (i.e. video files): Other drives

After installing Vegas, Make sure you go to File – Properties and Options – Preferences and change the file locations that default to drive C. You’ll also need to change the capture program as well to point to a new drive.

Your ideal scenario would be to have three drives if your budget allows it.

One drive (your C) would hold the OS and other progs. Another drive for capture and edit and the third for rendering. You will get better results in rendering speed wise.

Can you render to an external drive?

You can, but bear in mind the speed of your connection to an external drive – firewire would be your best option.

I render to, capture to, print to tape from external drives all the time.
