    Hi Guys,
Am a newbie to AE – hope I can explain my problem properly. In a program called Ulead Video Studio, I keyed myself ( facing the camera ) purposely on a black background. I did this because I was able to apply an effect, where a paintbrush starts at the top of the black screen, and as it sweeps down the page, it reveals me, sitting there, facing the camera.
Anyway, Ulead CANNOT save with ALPHA, so I just saved it as an ordinary AVI.
In After Effects, I re-saved it as RGB,MILLIONS with Alpha ( straight ).
OK, no problems to this point.
Then I started a new project, put myself on the first layer, and on the second layer below it, a clip of red bubbles. And yes, it blends, but here’s the problem.
The bottom layer ( the bubbles ) seem to ” play thru my body, face etc ).
I just want me ( layer 1 ) to be perfectly solid in the composition , without the bottom layer ” running thru / in front ” of me.
I thought it was some sorta ” bring/forward/back ” thing, but that’s not the issue.
I think maybe because it all started off in Ulead, which causes the problems.
Hope I explained this dilemma properly, and thanks for listening.
    I need help. Thanks.

    Thanks Dave,
My key was shot against green, and it’s perfect. My background plays thru my top layer ( the alpha clip – that’s my problem !!

    Dave,
Thank you for your help, which is very much appreciated. I only used Ulead because it did a effect that AE CAN’T do. All I need to know is why layer 2 plays on top of layer 1 . I have tried all the blending modes etc. It’s not that.
    I will retire ” defeated “.
Thanks Dave for all your help.
