TC and Ref on IO Express
We are in a studio environment recording multicamera shoots weekly and looking at the IO express for capturing 4 camera ISOs but not sure about using the TC over the Reference. If I’m capturing do I still need to sync the IO expresses if I’m going to edit in FCP multicam later and I don’t plan to playout during the record? Or do I still need to hook up the reference and forget about TC? It would have been nice if they included both TC and Reference, instead of either or.

On capture, the ioExpress will lock to incoming video, so you won’t have to worry about it, and just leave the device in freerun. Use the LTC if you need it. You will need to use VTR Exchange for this as FCP can’t capture the LTC without device conrol.

“REF is used to maintain a reference black (house sync) to a recording device encase of loss of signal (like with a battery change)
you really want the LTC if you are going to be syncing a multi-cam project.
