  TASA Leq(m) Guidance for Trailer Submission

  Hello Everybody,

  I’m a picture editor who has just, thru circumstances beyond my control, been given the task of mixing a theatrical trailer for a small indie film I’ve cut. I’ve been reading the TASA specs, and I’m a bit confused by them.

  I’m using Waves’ WLM, with the TASA preset.

  My questions are these:

  1) Is the only thing that matters the long term number of 85? I’m coming in at 85, but my short term briefly (and only once) hits as high as 87. Does a short term spike like that fail? WLM isn’t reporting any “overs”, if that matters.

  2) Does the TASA spec only specify a maximum? ie, can I deliver at 82 or 83 and be “safe”?

  3) It’s a fairly dynamic horror trailer with some shrill stabs, screams, etc. WLM is reporting a number of “unders”. Is this a problem? Honestly I can’t figure out how to avoid them when you have a number of quiet passages. Suggestions?
