  • Target a 3d layer to another?

Hello, I feel like this should be easy from everything I’ve seen, but can’t seem to get it.

I’m trying to get one 3d layer to target another 3d layer. More specifically, I’m wanting to make a 3d molecule with floating balls in 3d space and have lines between them. It’s the lines between them that I’m have problems with.

My approach is to have a line parented to one of the balls and have it point to another ball. I’ve seen a few tutorials how to control direction on 2d layers, but that’s only one angle. I don’t remember enough from math class to remember everything about sin, cos, tan, etc. to get the angles right. Can anyone help or steer me into the right direction?

    Thanks.

Luckily you don’t need sin/cos to do this, the layer’s toComp method can be of great help, for similar solutions, please take a look at this post:

Thanks! That worked great. I was using the beam method when I was working in 2d, but didn’t know how to make it look right in 3d.
