Need some urgent help — a few questions regarding importing targa files into avid

I have been given PSD files with the text and need to convert these files into targas — i need to make sure that when i import the files into Avid Media composer and put the text on top of a video it looks clear

so basically how do i do that — the psd — has the text with a black background

in addition — how do I make a targa when i am given a psd — text with a transparency background

in addition — what if i am given a psd — with the text and next to the text is a colorful slogan of a company — either in a transparency background / black or white

so please help me out —

can some one please write a step by step on creating these targa files — I know its something to do with creating an alpha channel — but i don’t know how

    please help its urgent

    Thanks

Do you have to use targa? .png files have an alpha with them, and are much easier to work with.

Do you have access to PhotoShop? I know Avid will import .psd files, but I’m not sure if you can specify which layer you bring in. You’ll need PShop to create either the targa, or better yet a .png, or tiff… whatever will work for you and supports an alpha.

    A bit difficult to tell.

Just share my Experience in PAL.

Create Empty or transparency bakground of 768 x 576 in PhotoShop size.

Make sure your logo has alpha chanel. Define a position where it should be.

If you don’t have, you have to make it by yourself (hope you understand how to do that. If not, you have a long way to become as a standard Editor).

Merge the layer and save it as PSD file.

Import in AVID as Maintain, Square, Single Field and 610/709 use existing or Invert Alpha.

    Mine work fine.
