We’re looking to move to a tapeless workflow for capturing during live production. Right now we’re using DVCPro HD decks to capture both line cut and camera iso for a four and five camera shoot. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a solution that we can pull into Final Cut easily for editing fate the events are over, and still be somewhat budget conscious?

    Thanks!

We’ve recorded directly to ProRes with the AJA Ki Pro for direct-to-edit with FCP — works wonderfully.

Can it capture multiple sources, or do you need one per source? What’s the storage capacity and price point for it?

It’s just like a VTR, so you would need one per source, but it records ProRes files to hard drive (or SSD, or ExpressCard Flash) instead of video to tape. I think the MSRP is $3,995 with a 250 GB drive module.

Here’s the website — AJA Ki Pro Recorder.

The COW has an AJA Ki Pro forum, too.

+1 for the KiPros. I used them recently to both record HD-SDI and transcode to SDI for a satellite shot. Great boxes. Spoke with AJA at NAB and they are only going to get better with the new firmware (machine control, firewire out, etc.)

We’ve got four and are looking for more.
