Tape Rewind Visual Effect
Posted by Caton Clark on February 23, 2009 at 5:42 pmHello,
I’m trying to recreate the look of a tape rewinding in a sequence. I’ve got the fast motion reverse footage, but i’d like to add some distortion like an old school VHS.
Any ideas on how to create this?
Thanks

February 23, 2009 at 5:45 pmEasiest way? Lay your original bit to tape (playing forward), then open your capture tool, turn off deck control and timecode, hit record, then hit Rewind on your tape deck. It should have all the rewind goodness you like and you won’t have to create anything. Just timeramp and adjust the speed more in your edit system to fit your cuts and you’re done.

February 24, 2009 at 1:05 amThere are a couple of ways.
Do you have access to Sapphire v2? -

February 25, 2009 at 3:53 amNot sure what’s in that version, but to be honest, I’d download the 3week free trail version on Sapphire v3, which has a TVDamage effect in it.
Reverse your footage with a Timewarp, and apply the effect. It will have more parameters then you need, but you should be able to get a really good effect, and it’s free. -
