    Hi,

I just rented a Panasonic DVX100A for a sweet price. I was told that the camera in past has used predominantly:

    Sony Premium DVM60PR3
    and generic Maxell tapes.

Now, I was thinking about using Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ tapes.

But because of the whole web lube/dry lube thing, should I just stick with
the Sony Premium DVM60PR3 tapes, or does it matter?

Note: I do not have a way to clean the heads at this point.

    Any help is truly apprciated.
    Thanks

If you have no way to clean the heads, stick with the Sony tape. When you switch back and forth, a gummy residue results from the mixed lube.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you rent that DVX 100 for?? I was thinking about buying one, but wanted to rent one first.

We rent ours for $125 per day for the DVX100 and $25 more for the 100A. Use it for 7 and pay for 4. Use it for 30 and pay for 15. Somewhere down the line, it might make more sense to buy.

I see a lot of people ask why a company will rent something when it’s cheaper to buy. The answer can be taxes or the fact that some Movie Production companies do not or cannot own anything because it becomes an insurance liability.
