  • Tape or deck damage?

Posted by Viktor Klayich on December 17, 2018 at 10:35 pm

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but I’ve received a few digitised files recently and a few have two bright bars left of frame.

Is this due to the deck heads damaging the tape or a bad tape deck, or will I just have two make a mask to cancel out the bright bars?

    Thanks!

Looks like some type of ringing. But impossible to tell what caused it now.
Sadly too many analogue to digital conversions are being done with little care.

I’d go the mask route but it’s a shame as it will impact quality.

    Thanks for the help Pat!

Will wait until the archivist is back from holidays to ask him to recheck the original tapes, hopefully won’t have to mask and now I know It can be referred to as ‘ringing’.

    Cheers
