Through what I have read, Sony tapes and Panasonic tapes dont mix. So my question is, what is the difference between Panasonic brands. I have seen Professional, and Master quality tapes. But there is also the brand you can get at Best Buy. Is there a big enough difference that it matters? or is it just a sales thing. Is the difference still noticeable when capturing through firewire? Since it gets compressed anyways? also is there any problems with buying the large dvd tapes, with 276 minutes?

So is there a difference, lubrication or otherwise, between Panny DVM63MQ and DVM63PQ?

Yeah thats what im getting at, I know the lubrication is the problem between sony and panasonic tapes. Which is why I stick with Panasonic, but i want to know the difference between the types panasonic offers.

I use this and have been very satisfied!

    https://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93406&catGroupId=14633&surfModel=AY-DVM63AMQ

I believe a significant difference in some of the Panasonic tapes is the actual thickness.

I agree with what’s been said about investing in good tape!

    Good Luck,

I am wondering the same thing now that the MQ has been discontinued. That is the tape I had been using for years. What are people using now that this tape is unavailable? There is an MQ1 or something like that which is almost twice the price of the MQ, but I’m not sure if it’s the ideal replacement tape.

    Thanks,

    Steve
