Talking Stick Figure for Animatic Storyboard
So I’m going to storyboard out an idea of mine for a web commercial. I’m going to use AE as the people I work for are very literal and they’re going to need more than crayon drawn still frames and notes.
I’d like to have a coach yelling at a team and then it turns out to be fans. I have a speech I’ve thrown together (I’ll have copy wright something before production) and I’d like my stick figure coach to open and close his mouth with the volume of my recorded VO track. Nothing fancy, just a line and an oval switching back and forth or something.
The animatic is going to be more about helping convey the overall idea and help me plan out some camera moves and such. Any help I could get with an expression to attach the opening and closing of his “mouth” would be awesome.

A simple way would be to put your open mouth layer over the closed mouth, convert your VO to keyframes and then add an expression like this to the opacity of the open mouth layer:
aud = thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”);
threshold = 10;
if (aud > threshold) 100 else 0;Set “threshold” to whatever makes sense for your setup.

Holy smokes! That’s awesome! Maybe too awesome…
It worked perfectly but because of the poor nature of my drawing it’s realy, really funny. I’ll work out the rest of the camera moves and stuff and see how it looks by the end.
I’ll try to remember to post a clip if it turns out.
