Talking head masking effect
I’m hoping someone can give me a quickie step-by-step for a simple treatment I want to achieve.
Picture a poor man’s depth-of-field blur on a talking head video clip; I’d like to simply (1) put a slight blur on the video event, and then (2) mask the person’s head using a soft-edged oval that serves to transition from the blurred background footage to the focused head footage.
I’ve seen some tutorials that talk about having to copy one track over itself in doing this, but I’m wondering if there’s a (simpler?) way (and one that doesn’t add tracks unnecessarily), such as having the mask only cutting a hole in the blur effect and not cutting a hole in the video content itself (which would then require the track being copied over itself to fill the hole back in), if that makes any sense (?)
And… how do I make the soft-edged oval 🙂
THANK YOU!
