  T4i for low-light action shots

  I have the T4i and, recently, have had a need to use it to take some low-light action shots. Is there anything I can do to better its performance?

  At present I’m using the kit lens with no flash. I’m under the impression the EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens might produce better low-light action results; is that true? Also, should I look at an external flash and, if so, what would be appropriate?
