System saving like a tank
I own a G4 500 dual coprocessor running OSX 10.3.9 using FCP 4.5. I have two internal hard drives for media files (both 80 gigers) and five external firewire hard drives (most of them 250 gigers) for more media files. All of my operating software is on an IBM 50 gig hard drive. This hard drive (the one with the operating system on it) now has a little less than 4 gigs of open space. Most of my media hard drives have a significant number of media files on them. One has only 4 gigs of space left. The rest vary from 15 gigs to 130 gigs of space free.
I notice that when I save it now takes a very long time for the system to do its thing. I would like to pep things up, i.e. make the system faster.
I wonder if changing out the hard drive on which I have my operating software for one with more capacity would help? What else can I do to get relief short of buying a G5 which is the next step I will take (hopefully not for at least another six months to a year)?
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
