System performance
I would like to have your opinion on this.
I have the following system:
G5 Dual 2.7
4.5Gb RAM
1Tb.Sata
ATI Radeon 9650The problem is performace is not what i expected(specially using Final Cut Pro v5.02).
It can’t even play real time a 30 seconds.mov.I deal the same problem with other applications too(Motion e.t.c.) so there must be something wrong with my settings.What should i check?

What type of media are you playing?
What is the media format?
What is the sequence format?
Are these SATA drives internal or external?
Drive speed?
Striped or RAID?Please send more details.

Everything is done in DV-PAL.
External.

Hmm…. This should be really smooth. Do you see any colored lines over your timeline? If so, this indicates you need to render, which means that your media doesn’t match your sequence settings. Make sure you have the right sequence setting by using one of the presets before editing any media to that timeline. Do the individual clips play fine in the viewer before you edit them to the timeline?

I render all before viewing and even after quiting FCP and playing the .mov with Quick Time Player it doesn’t play smoothly,even small file size movies(250-300Mb).That’s why i think it’s the system settings wrong.Another thing i noticed on FCP settins is that memory usage shows 2560Mb and still cache 241Mb.Should i increase still cache?
