    Hi All,

I experienced a system crash during browsing of media on the desktop.
FCP is not running, no other application is running too.
Hope you can kindly take a look & share any advice.

    – System Configuration:
    Apple PM G5 Quad 2.5Ghz
    4GB RAM
    Apple PCI-E FC card
    AJA Kona LHe
ADTX 10 x 250GB – Used as Direct Attached Storage

    Mac OS X 10.4.3
    QuickTime 7.0.3
    FCP 5.0.4
    Kona 1.1.6

Please note the system has been updated, after the crash:
    Mac OS X 10.4.4
    QuickTime 7.0.4
    FCP 5.0.4
    Kona 2.0.1

    – Scenario:
The customer was browsing through the data on the ADTX, when the system froze & crash.
I had to shut-down the G5, by holding down the power button.

    – Below is take from the Crash Reporter – before the crash:
Aug 11 10:07:18 OchreG5 kernel[0]: SwitchBitfile(): Switching to LH HD bitfile
    Aug 11 10:07:18 OchreG5 kernel[0]: KHDDriver::ProgramXilinx()

when you say “crash” – you mean the MAC locks up compeltely right ? Could be ANYTHING – could be flakey RAM. It takes TIME AND MONEY to find problems like this. I suggest replacing the RAM(with a minimum amount of RAM, just for testing), and removing the Kona and drive host card (SATA, Fibre, SCSI), and see within an hour or two, if the MAC crashes. Then add back the Kona, wait for 2 hours, then add back your host adaptor. If everyting still works, you have flakey RAM.

Why can’t there be an error message that simply says “DIMM in Slot 2 has failed”, or Fibre Host ADaptor has crashed CPU operation”
