  • Syncing timeline timecode with video

Posted by Matt Harris on March 2, 2011 at 6:08 am

I’m working on a music video. I need to have a bunch of clips sync to one single audio clip. I don’t like using multicam and plural eyes is doing me no good.

I need to manually set timecode. Id like to be able to just drag in clips into the timeline and have the option to “move into sync” with the main audio. Is this possible? Is there a way to have the timeline timecode force everything into sync with it? thanks for any advice

The only way I know of to force the audio to move into sync is to link the audio and video, so that when one is moved out of sync, you see that red box with a + or – value. However, in order for that to work, you’d have to lay each clip in its own sequence with the audio, then use those sequences to edit into a new master sequence. Or, you could take the synced sequences, export them as QT movies and bring them back in, which would be easier to work with than nested sequences. It’s not a very graceful solution, but I’m not aware of any other.

    Hey Matt

Try selecting your various clips in the Browser and then choose Modify menu > Make Multiclip Sequence… that should create a sequence with the selected clips laid out chronologically aligned to the sequence timecode

I think to do that you’ll have to choose to align the clips to the audio files timecode, since I’m assuming not all the video clips span the length of the song.

Thanks for the tips. It just seems like it would be easier to have an option where anything dragged from the viewer would snap into time in the timeline, no matter what the audio is.
