  • Syncing dailies in FCP – confused about the prosess!

Posted by Lars Apneseth on September 10, 2006 at 11:17 am

Hi. I’m working on a film project with separate sound and picture. I usually do the syncing in Avid, but in FCP I’m confused:

In Avid, I usually capture a whole tape into one clip, then I put it into a sequence and add the audio clips in synk alongside the video. Next I make subsequenses of the takes. In Avid, these SUBSEQUENCES CAN BE TRANSFORMED INTO SUBCLIPS, which I use for editing. Later, when I match frame from an edit, the subclips pop up. When I choose to reveal the source material, THE ORIGINAL VIDEOCLIP POPS UP. (Or I mark the audio tracks, and the audioclip will pop up). BUT:

1: In FCP I haven’t found a way to make a subclip out of a subsequence. Is this possible?
2: I also tried to first make subclips of the video, then add audio to the subclip in a sequence, link the tracks and make a subclip of this. But when I asked FCP to reveal the source material, the audio clip popped up! I couldn’t choose. Not useful for me. Any remedies?

    I’ll appreciate your answer!

    Hi Sralar,
You can do it. You can make sub-clips, master clips, indepenient clips, etc. But if I try to explain it to you, you will get more confused. There is a very good article in the LA FCUser group web site. “Meet the Family: FCP 4’s Clip Types” is the name. I thing didn’t change much since FC4.
    Salud

Search for MERGED clips in the user help or in the manual.
