Activity Forums Avid Media Composer syncing audio and video by timecode

  • syncing audio and video by timecode

    Hi,
I’m syncing dailies in media composer adrenaline, old-school style, by lining up the visual slate on the video file, marking an in, then finding the slate clap on the separate audio file, marking an in, then choosing the two files and goin’: “sync by in-point”.
I know that this works well, but I also know that it can be done just with timecode.

My slate itself has visual timecode that matches the audio files’ timecode. The video files have totally separate tape timecode, after the telecine transfer to DVcam.

So what’s the fastest, most accurate way to sync with all this TC info I have? I may need to be more specific, but just some general ideas on other people’s work-flows for syncing with Avid would be helpful.
    Thanks.

If the video files had the same corresponding TC, you could punch in the TCs and sync using TC, but it doesn’t so you can’t and the method you are using works and is your only alternative from what I can gather from the info you provided.

By the way, is your name derived from the song “Signs” by the Five Man Electrical Band?

A song covered by the group Tesla from their live “Five Man Acoutical Jam” album…..

I’m not sure if grouping your clips will help you – If you are going to use multicam it might be ideal…

Have you tried modifying your clips? You could probably modify the audio to match the video timecode. Keep in mind you’ll get migranes trying to redigitize….

Good point Jon, I completely missed it. What you do is lay down the video clip and then lay down the audio under it starting at the sync point to create a one clip sequence that you use instead of the video only and audio only clips.
