  • SYNCHING DIVA AUDIO TO P2 FOOTAGE – WORKFLOW

Posted by Jim Blokland on July 12, 2007 at 3:02 pm

    Hi Cows:

Wondering if anyone’s had experience designing a workflow for a feature shooting on P2 and doing double-system sound on the DIVA Hard Drive Recorder. I need to output DVD rushes too, which I’ll probably do by downconverting in RT through my Kona 2 to a DVD recorder (using the audio guide on the P2).

    Any real-world experience/advice much appreciated.

    Best, JIM.

Is that one of those consumer DVD/hard drive recorders?

If it is it’s probably mp3 files which will have to be gotten off the DIVA somehow and converted to 48kHz aif for import in to FCP.

    Hello:

Thanks for your post. I believe it is a pro hard drive recorder (gotta do some web research…). Most likely, it is recording to an AIFF format, uncompressed.

I did this on a feature that was shot last summer. The Deva is a pro hard disk recorder that can export to DVD-RAM. I was given files on DVD once or twice a day, & synched with a good old fashion clapper slate at the head of each take.

That makes more sense. The Deva is capable of outputting B_Wav files as well – which can give you timecode data – if they used a proper timecode slate.

Thanks for the clarification(s). (gotta check my spelling next time!)

Have either of you got any tips regarding T/C synch between the Deva and a Panasonic HVX200? Does the T/C on the Deva match the P2 T/C?

    Thanks again for any advice.

There is no TC in or out of the HVX. You will not be able to synch it’s TC with the Deva.

The DIVA proably has TC out.
Use that to put the TC as AUX TC on one of the camera’s audio tracks.
    (a normal transmitter works fine)
    Next, get this:

One of the things still to be done is making the BWF’s autosync to the video, we’re currently working on that.
But having the same TC in both BWF and video sure helps, specially if there are TC breaks.
