  • synch problem when rendering uncompressed

I have a ten minute video that I have successfully rendered for YouTube (high quality) and for DVD and as NTSC DV using Vegas 9. Before removing the files from my computer, I wanted to render it in as high a quality as possible so I tried to render it uncompressed. The video quality was superb but the audio was a couple of seconds out of synch. I tried it four times always with the same result. This did not happen in any other type of rendering. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well, uncompressed SD usually requires more throughput than a single hard drive can provide. Are you playing off a 10k disk or a RAID array? How are you determining that the audio is out of sync?

Thanks Rob. You pointed me in the right direction. The uncompressed file was over 2 gigs. When I played it on a computer with more throughput there was no problem with the synch.

As I mentioned, I was rendering this 10 minute video uncompressed in order to archive it and then clear my internal hard drive of all the files in the project media. I intend to include this 10 minute piece with three others when completed onto a DVD, so I wanted the best possible version available. Does this seem like the best way to archive this or is there another format or method you would recommend?

    Thanks again.

You could use the HuffYUV or Lagarith codec and get much smaller file size with the same lossless quality. Sony YUV and CineForm are also good choices for archiving although they are not lossless.
