Sync problems using Capture in CS6 PP
I was given several VHS tapes to capture using PP 6.0.2. This setup has worked fine in the past, but this time the captures are WAY out of sync. The video will be ahead of the sound by as much as a second or more. I have done short 5-10 sec. test captures and they too will fail with the same problem. I’m capturing into NTSC 8-bit, DV/DVCPRO codec which has proven rock solid in the past. My interface is the Matrox MXO2 and I’m on OS 10.8.2 capturing into an 8-bay RAID drive. Any ideas? I’m not sure whether to blame this on my Matrox unit or on PP.

This bit especially: “In capture setup [The Matrox driver/hardware settings], you will see an option of “Broadcast” or “Consumer” capture quality. If captures are aborting/dropping frames using Broadcast, try Consumer, which is more forgiving for capturing older analog sources with sync issues and glitches like VHS, 8mm.

This isn’t a problem of dropping frames. The latest Matrox software now has a checkbox allowing uninterrupted capture even if you are dropping frames. I’ve used this option during my tests AND I’ve tried two different VHS decks (Panasonic AG-1980 and JVC BR-S800U) and the tapes themselves are fairly stable….or as stable as VHS can be.
And, as stated above, this can happen with a test clip as short as 5 seconds, so it’s not a drift during a long tape capture.
