Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Sync problems

Just got the new Quad w/ 4.5 G RAM. Brought in DVC Pro tape w/ the Panasonic AJ-D250 and I am having sync problems on long clips. The clips start off fine but then the audio drifts as the clip gets longer. I read an earlier post where they were told to recapture the clip. Is this the answer?

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

Sync problems can occur if your recording sample rate is different from your capture preset sample rate. Did you get any warning during capture? If you didn’t this isn’t a likely scenario, but if you accidentally recorded at, say, 32 kHz and your project and capture settings are at 48 kHz, sync problems could occur. In which case, yes, re-import, but change your settings.

    Hello,

    I’ve had this problem for a while now. I’m using a dual 2.5ghz G5 with 4 gb of RAM, OSX 10.3.9, & FCP 4.5HD.
When I work on a timeline/project any longer than say an hour I get problems when I scrub through the footage, and try to play the footage back….there always seems to be a very slight, (11 frames or so) sync problem.
This can be caused if you haven’t allowed your drives to spin up to full speed before you try and play the footage.
I’m currently working on a live video for a band UK called ‘Half Man Half Biscuit’ and I’ve been getting this problem for most of today. The worse thing is I’m working with footage from five cameras, and I’ve had to sync up all of the video tracks manually. Everytime the sync problem appears I have to recheck all of my video tracks to make sure none of them are REALLY out of sync.

    Happy New Year

    All the best

You won’t be able to fix the audio sync problem. Apple has changed the audio codec since FCP 3. If you listen really carefully there is also 1.5 frames drop of audio (random throughout your whole capture), or if you have your DIF audio set for DV it will be a audio spike for 1.5 frames. And just so you know it got really bad with FCP 5 HD. The audio starts to drift at 5 minutes into your capture (7 frames drift) and it continuously gets worse.

So on that theory…does any know if we can take the good codec from FCP 3 and use it in FCP 5 HD? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Since panasonic has talked to apple and says that apple knows of the problem with the codec, I have tried everything with them to rid this problem including a firmware update on the VTR, and every possible combination in the menu settings and then capture. No luck.

    Andrew.

I finally fixed the problem by bringing the video in with the setting of non-controllable device. It fixes the drift, but does not give me timecode. So as far as I’m concerned it still is unacceptable.
