sync problem….
Posted by Mantrafilm on April 21, 2005 at 9:18 pmStrange thing: I opened a FCP 4 project and files from a clients LaCie firewiredisk on my dual G5 with FCP 4.5 HD.
(Clips are mini DV and had been captured from Canon XM2-cameras).
All the clips had out of sync audio (about 5 to 6 frames). When reviewed in FCP 4 with the original computer that captured the clips (also a dual G5) they were all IN sync…
I work with LaCie disks all the time and they’re great, can’t be it.
I never encountered this problem before and I can’t seem to find a resolution.
I wonder if anyone could help me with this; any comment is appreciatedGavin Stokes replied 20 years, 11 months ago 4 Members · 9 Replies -

Are you monitoring on EXTERNAL audio and video (or on the computer for both audio and video) on the second computer?

April 22, 2005 at 9:31 am.. I’m working with clips in a project from a firewire disc; clips have been captured with audio and video in one file (DV Pal (I’m in Europe) compression, 25 fps,48.000 kHz, the correct way). So, the clips have timecode and there’s no “out of sync” label appearing in the timeline but it IS out of sync.
(I hope I’m still making sense here). -

I wanted to know so I could emininate the possibility that the “lag” between the Canvas and the External (audio) Monitor was not your problem.
If you’re viewing/listening ONLY on the computer (with no FW deck or camcorder connected to the Mac, I’m stumped.

April 22, 2005 at 3:02 pmI think it’s the same delay than working with AJA (firewire as well) You have to set the user settings in FCP the magic 7 frames, then it’s in sync. The external works in the same way, over fire wire. If the out of sync is constant you can fix it within FCP settings.

April 25, 2005 at 5:27 pmyes, but I encountered the same problem (audio out of sync) today while capturing and previewing from a Sony VX 1000 through firewire… never had that problem before. Checked my settings again, they were ok. Could it be a bug in OS 10.3.9????

April 27, 2005 at 5:54 pmDidn’t hear good news of 3.9. I’m glad I’m still on 3.8. Up to now there is no reason to update.
good luck,Rainer

June 1, 2005 at 9:34 amThis seems to be a playback problem in FCP. I have the same problem with DV50 footage captured through an Aja Io.
The annoying thing is that the sync just suddenly falls apart. Your whole sequence works fine, and you’re editing away. But some editing manuever seems to mess up FCP and then the audio is about six frames ahead of the video all through the sequence, and there’s no way I can find to eliminate the problem.
And the problem doesn’t seem to be constant; the sync seems to be worse some places than others.
I’m monitoring using the build-in audio and the canvas, AND an external monitor. Sync is off the same way all around.
If you render your sequence out to QT, though, it’s in sync.
