Sync Pro Tools and FCP – 23.98
I have a 3 camera shoot, using the Sony HDR-AX2000. The cameras are set to 24p and the footage is brought into FCP using Log and Transfer, which brings the footage in at 23.98.
I have an audio guy who is recording the show on his multi track Pro Tools LE system. He mixes down the audio, gives it to me, I bring it into FCP, and its out of sync.
We have tried changing the frame rates in Pro Tools to 24 and 23.976, with no luck.
The audio slowly gets out of sync as it plays, leading me to believe that its a frame rate issue.
The camera records at 16bit 48KHz, we’ve tried different sample rates and bit rates in Pro Tools too.
What are we missing?

Stick with 48 khz, 16 or 24 bit aif only.
Read this tutorial, particularly the second half where it describes the correct procedure for importing audio assets into FCP.

If your default project setting is other than the 23.98 setting of your desired sequence, FCP will frame rate stamp the audio based on the default project, not current and it will drift, regardless of what comes from ProTools.
