Symphony and FCP on same CPU
Has anyone installed FCP and AVID Symphony on the same MAC? We have long used AVIDs and have a Symphony Nitris on a PC in our HD finishing suite and are now planning to offer FCP in the same room. The test equipment, legalizer and monitors are all there already and more clients are asking for FCP. So here we go. I’ve heard that both programs can work on the samve MAC now that Symphony is offered on the MAC. This would simplify the install a great deal if it works…
Any thoughts.

I would highly recommend a dual boot system–one drive for FCP, one for Symphony. FCP typically requires a different (newer) version of the OS and Quicktime than Avid, so if you install both on the same OS boot you’ll end up with an old version of Quicktime (or OS) for FCP (causing potential problems), or a broken Symphony (because of OS/Quicktime incompatibilities).

We have a dual boot for the Symphony-DS and it works well. It sounds like a good idea for the Symp-FCP as well.

I’m pretty sure that only Nitris DX works on Mac, not classic Nitris.
