  symbol spayer tool really slow?

  I hadn’t used the symbol sprayer tool for quite a while, and when used it today it was atrociously slow. I thought my symbol might be complicated, so i tried simple circle symbols, same result. I can’t have more than 100 symbol instances, and it’s really slow. The sprayer and every other tool to rotate/scale etc. CS5 Windows 7. Is this normal?
