  • Sym 6.5 Squeeze Version?

    Hey Folks,

I hope y’all are well and good.

I have the Symphony 6.5 upgrade from 6.0 coming. Yesterday I got an email from Sorenson with 40% off. I have Squeeze 8.0 from Sym 6.

    So, then the question is:

What version of Squeeze is shipping in the latest Symphony 6.5 shipments?

    Thanks,
    Robert:-)

No version ships with Symphony 6.5. Squeeze isn’t part of the package. One reason MC and Symphony have gotten cheaper is by no longer bundling them with things like Squeeze, Script Sync…

Not entirely accurate. ScriptSync is now an add on (at a hefty $1,000), but Symphony still comes with:

    Avid DVD
    AvidFX
    Boris Continuum Complete
    Sorenson Squeeze
Other Avid software (EDL Manager, Film Scribe, etc…)

Now as to which version of Squeeze it comes with, I have no idea. But it does come with some version of it.

I’ve tweeted Gary at Videoguys. Hopefully he’ll respond with the answer. They’re good folks over there – if he gets you the answer, you might consider buying the upgrade from them.

Kevin McAuliffe just tweeted that it’s Squeeze 8.1. Hope that helps.

I thought of that as I did buy the upgrade from them as well as the Sym 6 from FCP crossgrade. I wasn’t sure they would know.

    Thanks,

I spoke to a nice man at Videoguys and he verified that Squeeze 8.x ships with Sym 6.5.

So I bought the upgrade of Squeeze to 8.5 and it will not compress my ProRes out of Avid to h.264 and I have opened a ticket with Sorenson. Mentioned to them that I was glad I upgraded to a broken version.

Fortunately my Episode 6.x still works like a charm.

    Y’all be cool,
    Robert
