My shooter provided me with an SxS card and his SIIG card reader. I am working on a newer intel iMac, and have loaded every Sony driver for SxS and XDCam that I could find, and the card is still not showing up. I read in various locations that the SIIG expresscard reader will not work with the SxS card.

Can somebody verify this for me? I don’t know why else my shooter would have provided this reader to me unless he’s never tried using it before.

My next step will be to try it on a friend’s macbook pro slot. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks in advance

[Aubrey Hays] “My next step will be to try it on a friend’s macbook pro slot.”

If you are referring to the Macbook Pro’s Express 34 slot then that will work fine provided that you have Sony’s FAM Driver installed. This driver will recognize the SxS card as an attached device.

The only SxS card readers (SxS is PCIe, not USB based) that I know of that work reliably are Sony’s and Sonnet Qio.

    Do you mean this?
    https://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=JU-000012-S1
    or
    https://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=JU-EP0012-S1
    which says

Important: This adapter only works with USB-based ExpressCard devices. PCI Express-based ExpressCard devices will not be detected. Please check with your device’s manufacturer if you are not certain

Thanks for both responses. I just wonder why the guy gave me this reader.

There’s a lot of confusion over USB vs PCIe Express support. People often think it’s simply the computer connection but there are two different internal types to the Express cards themselves.

    SxS is PCIe.
MxM, Hoodman, MxR and Sony’s own SDHC card adaptor are USB based.

As you can see, SIIG notes the difference and has the warning underneath the two products I linked to. I think some people don’t understand the implications of it though.
