I have edited with FCP and with Avid Media Composer. Now, our office is adding Premier Pro to our desktops and, frankly, I’m planning to do as much in Premier Pro as possible.

I really don’t like Avid and here’s why: In FCP – all the media files and project files are in the same place. Deleting a project is easy. Deconstructing a project is easy. I just did a project-by-project purge on the Avid, and for reasons I’ll never understand, all of the sudden all my project files were gone. All of them. Sigh ….)

Here’s my question: how similar is Premier Pro to FCP in this respect? Can I set up a Premier project so that all project elements are in one folder??

We haven’t yet installed the Adobe Creative Suite because we are waiting for new computers. I just want a heads up on this issue.

And while I’m grateful for any and all feedback, please don’t try to guess what I did wrong with the Avid purge. I’ve moved on … :-)…..

Thank you in advance to all the awesome Creative Cow Folks who have been so helpful to me in the past.

Premiere Pro is very flexible in this aspect, allowing you to place project media anywhere you’d like. Of course there are certain guidelines you should follow as to where you SHOULD keep your media files in order to streamline your system’s ability to handle it all, and there are a few thousand posts on here and elsewhere that can help you in that realm.

Oh…and I don’t have to guess what you did to purge your media in Avid. I too came from Media Composer to Premiere Pro, and fully understand the ‘intricacies’ of media management in Avid. Premiere Pro is 100 times simpler…or more!
