  • Switch vs Cut in multicam editing

I just stumbled upon the multicam edit keyboard layout – which is WONDERFUL.
But I’m confused about why anyone would need to switch angles, as opposed to just cutting them?
Is this to preview an angle while it’s playing back?
And why in the world would apple make the default keyboard shortcut switch angle, and the cmd+key the cut angle?
Seems odd. Can someone enlighten me on the application of the ‘switch to angle’ command?

When cutting on the fly, you sometimes like the duration of your cut.

So, you just want to show another angle by just switching the angle in instead of making another cut.

Also, you can just play through your sequence and swap angles after you made your initial roughcut.

That is a helpful tool! However, to me I would use it after my initial cut. So I still don’t understand why it the layout would default to swtich, and have cmd+ be the cut.
Not a big deal; I’ll just remap the keys.

    Thanks for the reply!

Are you using the setup Tools>Keyboard Layout>Multi-Camera Editing

This is different set of shortcuts, you can also define you own.

If your doing Multicam its great to have a keyboard with the numberpad on the side. That will also help your situation.

Yes, that’s the set I had just found, but was confused as to why the default on the keypad was switch, not cut.
Like I said, I’ll just remap the keys.

Yeah, I’ve always thought this was stupid too. Just remapping the keys to cut instead of switch has been my solution.
