  • Switch to Program Monitor?

Posted by Bobby Cullipher on September 6, 2012 at 1:52 am

In CS6, after making an edit, the source window remains active… it seems that the most common workflow would be that after an edit is made, the Program window would become active so that new in/outs could be made. Trying to minimize mouse movements by using keystrokes… this is painful. Anyone know how to change the default active window once an edit is made?

Actually, that’s the way that FCP does things…when you make an edit, the Program window/timeline is active. That isn’t the case with Avid, nor Premiere. They assume you dropped in that footage, and will continue to want to use the Source monitor to seek out other footage. Because you already did you duty in the timeline.

I was always frustrated with how FCP did it. I really like how Adobe and Avid do it.

You know honestly I hadn’t even noticed that. Even after 11 years of cutting in FCP, I didn’t even notice that change in the workflow. I guess I like it more than FCP.

No, I honestly don’t know a way to change that. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply… I’m in FCP 6 and 7 now and it switches to program after an edit. In my little mind, this is the proper work flow.
