am trying to carve out a shape out of basically a square piece, mylenium suggested using a sweepnurb, – below –

i have played around with this, but the sweep, usingn a profile and the pline for my outline of my final shape, seems to want to stick out in the z direction.

my whole gag is to have a flat piece, with pieces falling away or siddapearing as a stream of particles are shot at it.

right now, getting the sweep nurbs gag to work is a little tricky

    thanks,

mylenium – “Model the logo and the part that is supposed to be the remains after the cutting. Make sure you have some discernible gap between them. Cover up the gap with a SweepNURBS of which you animate the start and end in sync with the water beam. If your logo is more like a relief/ embossing and parts of the logo need to be revealed, not just its contours, use booleans to create the chunks you are going to hose away. Use the Explosion FX object to get some debris like effect. Also try to make everything more interesting by adding water spray and dust from the logo. This will also disguise some minor imperfections.

Well, flat pieces are never easy, an inherent weakness in how splines work. Perhaps you could in that case take a completely different route. Since, as you say, you are planning to have pieces falling anyways, why not us the ExplosionFX deformer? This way you could create your text as normal ExtrudeNURBS and boolean techniques. The only downside would be that you more or less need a separate defoormer for each letter and need to animate it individually.
